Poem - Perfumed Worship

Perfumed worship, perfect chaos
Deafening silence, sunless light
Torrential raindrop, trembling stillness
Soaking wind, agonising delight

Pouring out from fearful places
Going where I’ve never gone
Finding life in letting go
Full of energy, completely spent
Never understanding but somehow knowing
Present realities that I can not touch

All extremes contained in you
Find their origin & end
Comprehensible mystery
I am saved by what you spend

The earth cannot contain you
And yet - you live here inside
Father we can not comprehend
This mystery of you in us

Unapproachable light,
Unapproachable light
And yet you say - draw near
Soundless words

How awesome, how awesome you are Lord
We dare not, we dare not approach you
How awesome, how awesome you are
We dare not, we dare not approach you

But you say “come up, rest on my knee
I long to hold you, come near to me
Come near, come near to my heart”
How can we, how can we come?

What a terrible thing, What a terrible thing,
To fall into, the arms of - the living God
And yet your touch brings life
What a terrible, what a wonderful thing

And so I die into life

Take my worship - Let it rise to you, to you
May it be a fragrance in your nostrils oh Lord
May it be acceptable unto you Lord

In my spirit I worship, In my heart I adore
How can I draw near? Lord you make the way
As I come under your cloak, I’m wrapped in your love
And you cover me, you draw me close

I am standing next to creation
I am leaning on the shoulder of the galaxy
All of power contained in the one who holds my hand
How oh Lord can that be?
