Godly Covenant

by Patsy Grubb

Due to the fact that I was having a restless night, I decided to head into work earlier than usual. As I left home I decided to take a detour to the postoffice to check the mail box as I hadn’t checked it in a while. That done, I proceeded to work, however on the way I became distracted as my mind drifted back to an unpleasant, yet necessary, event in my life several years ago.

I was quite deep in thought and obviously distracted from the task at hand because as I approached the roundabout, the Holy Spirit alerted me that I was about to take a wrong turn. Being mentally on autopilot, I was about to head in the direction of a friends home rather than to my work place. I was heading subconsciously to a familiar and comfortable place.

The Holy Spirit began to speak to me concerning the importance of us as individuals,  ensuring that we establish and remain in covenant relationship with those God has instructed us to. It is easy to become distracted and head off course when we do not have people who have our best at heart to keep us accountable in our actions, attitudes, visions, etc. As was the case with me heading to my friends home, it is not always that we end up in a bad place, it is simply the fact that we end up in a place other than where we are meant to be. We then find ourselves having to retrace our steps, and get back on course which can be both time consuming and taxing on our energy and even our finances. We lose ground which we then have to make up. When we are in Godly covenant relationships we have the benefit of leadership, friends, etc who will lovingly adjust us, remind us of our promises, commitments and long term goals, dreams etc.

As well as ensuring we meet our responsibility in the area of relationships we also need to ensure we meet our responsibility in pursuing and growing in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. If we surrender our lives to Him, He will adjust and correct us as well as warn us whenever we need it. He is after all The Helper.

Be Blessed.
